ECNL Sanford Event Recap

HAWKS ’02

The Hawks 02 ECNL headed to Sanford facing stiff competition including two teams highlighted in the Florida Showcase event preview.  On Friday, they opened their account against Ohio Premier, currently sitting in eighth place in the Champions League and billed as a “team to watch”.  One would have been impressed however watching the Hawks as they came away with a 4-1 victory over their neighbor to the south.  Day 2 was against Atlanta powerhouse Tophat, and the Hawks can only wonder what might have been as some missed opportunities produced a 4-1 loss in a game much closer than the score line.  The Hawks 02 responded well however and in closing, upended a strong McLean YSA team1-0 in a game that was fast-paced and intense from whistle to whistle.  The Hawks held long bouts of possession and continually disrupted their quality opponent, ending McLean’s previous 17-game unbeaten streak.

Hawks defender Adrianna Stranges snuffs out another attack against Saturday opponent Hophat.

HAWKS 02 BLACK:

Hawks 02 Black started their showcase weekend against a fast and talented Washington Premier team. They caught us on our heels and managed to go up 2-0. The girls fought back and watched the momentum start to swing their way in the 2nd half but just cound not find the back of the net enough times losing 2-1. The team regrouped on Saturday against Tennessee Soccer Club. It was a game full of referee whistles including 3 PK’s.  In the end the Hawks finished with a 2-1 win.  Sunday’s game against Virginia Development Academy was a bit of a whirlwind, starting 45 mins early and including only a 5 minute halftime. It was a physical game, but the Hawks 02 Black players stayed firmly in control to end the weekend with a 4-0 win.
